China-America Association for Public Affairs (CAAPA)

2010 Pre-ABFM Symposium on China Studies

Call for Paper Proposals

In recent years the interest held by the general research community in China studies has increased and this has created a need for a platform of academic exchange for such research. For this purpose, the China-America Association for Public Affairs (CAAPA) and the School of Public Administration, University of Nebraska at Omaha will jointly organize and sponsor a one-day symposium on China studies.

Date, Location and Charges

The symposium will be on October 6, 2010, on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Omaha. This arrangement (the day before, and in the same town, as ABFM) is to facilitate and reduce the travel cost by participants. There is no registration fee, and refreshments and lunch will be provided free of charge.

Theme

The purpose of this symposium is three-fold. First, it is to provide a forum for scholars in the broad field of Public Affairs, including public finance and budgeting, to exchange their research on China-related studies. Second, it is to promote academic exchanges between American and Chinese scholars. Finally, it is to advance and broaden the horizon of Public Administration to a global perspective.

Thus, there will not be any particular restrictions as to the topics; panels, however, will be organized by categories of topics. There will be no parallel panels, so that all participants will have the chance for full exposure to the work of others.

Publication

After the symposium, CAAPA will (1) post the presented papers on its website (www.caapa-us.org), and (2) edit the papers for submission as a symposium in a refereed academic journal.

Submission of Proposal and Full Draft

Please submit paper proposals to Dr. Yonghong Wu of the University of Illinois-Chicago at yonghong@uic.edu, by March 31, 2010. Each proposal should include: (1) tentative title, (2) an abstract of about 250 words, (3) Author’s affiliation, e-mail, telephone and mailing address. A completed draft of the paper should be available for discussants and other panelists by September 20, 2010.
